Volunteer Person Specification:
Norwich Rape Crisis and Mpower

  As a volunteer you may be asked to help with a number of activities, the primary key to our service is the Helpline, but there are many other duties. To help you decide whether you would like to become a volunteer the following activities have been identified, please do not be alarmed by the list - you will not be expected to do them all - but we do ask for a minimum time commitment of 8 hours per month.

Key Activities:

•  Active participation on the rota for the Helpline

•  Helping with Crisis support interviews

•  Providing one to one counselling service

•  Outreach service

•  Training providers

•  Liaison and networking with other groups

•  Promoting the organization in line with its code of ethics

•  Playing an active role in helping with the administration and running of the

organizations

•  Behaving in a way that does not discredit or bring the organization into disrepute

•  Maintaining confidentiality

•  Continual development of ones own skills by participation in group supervision and one-to-one supervision.

•  Identifying and participating in future training opportunities to develop ones own skills and expertise.

•  Abiding by the code of ethics

•  Active time commitment of 8 hours per month

Characteristics we are looking for:

•  An ability to listen, to see things from another persons point of view.

•  To be non-judgmental as well as demonstrating a respect for others.

•  Good communications skills, recognizing when to ask, receive and give help.

•  A willingness to work as part of a team to be reliable and contribute fully.

•  A willingness to work with emotional distress, including anger.

•  A willingness to learn and participate - to seek out other learning opportunities

•  A willingness to face challenges and to give challenges with respect and integrity.
